ReviewsAverage Customer Rating: Based on 6 reviews. Write a reviewRating: - jake was the man Reviewer: matthew from navarre, Florida jake, was one the most talented performers of his generation. He cut some the of most interesting promos, promos that made you think. He really lived that persona of a "snake". I can't wait till he's inducted into the wwe's so called "hall of fame"Rating: - Very dark Reviewer: Aaron from Bowling Green, Ohio I loved this DVD.I felt that it didn't leave anything out.Jake was very personal and admitted his shortcomings.I also felt the matches were some great picks.Jake was a mic master and still can suck people in telling his own story.Rating: - I cannot recommend this highly enough Reviewer: John T. from Charlotte, North Carolina Since I first heard about this DVD I knew I had to get it. In all honesty it had everything to do w/the shoot interview & nothing to do w/the matches. To quote Paul Heyman, "Everyone wants to do a shoot. Well this...is a shoot. Plusses: *shoot interview-I have seen many shoots, but I have yet to see one as brutally honest as this one. While Jake's personal life was just in in "Beyond the Mat," this dives head first into it. Jake holds nothing back as he comments on his "controversial" conception, the problems his young mother faced, his absentee father & there eventual divorce. He speaks at length about growing up w/his father's parents where they wore clothes made out of curtains because his dad didn't support them, being introduced to alchohol at a young age by his alchoholic grandfather, how his bad home life caused him to suffer depression, and the death of his grandmother. Jake discusses other elements in that would follow his life that would be no step up as he was sexually abused. He would later physically abuse one of his sisters & deal yet again w/2 devastating deaths in his immediate family. Watching this documentery definitely makes it a lot easier to see how Jake turned into the troubled man, he still in many ways is, today. While I believe it in no way excuses him, it does give a ton of insight. As someone who has struggled w/substance problems much of my adult life, I found it easy to identify w/how Jake got involved in prescription drugs & alchohol. For anyone facing those demons, it is an all too familiar story. I think veiwing this DVD can be beneficial to others based soley on Jake's candid discussion of facing his demons. *matches/extras-Jake is a MASTER ring psychologist and anyone who wants to know what ring psychology is, or wants to be a wrestler should study this...DDT vs. Rude Awakening match is great...SMW title is a match full of creat psychology...there is great history on what is IMHO Jake's best feud vs. Rude...There are a ton of things about snakes. My favorite is when he discusses the cobra biting (yes, it was a real cobra & yes he really did bite) Randy Savage, and how the snake wouldn't let go. If you have any doubts this is legit, you can cleary zoom in and see how brutal it really is. Minues-Not a lot of these matches ar really great in my opinion. In fact that is one reason that I waited so long to get it. While there are a few good matches, most are just there. Mixture of both-The "Snake pit" match is a classic, and every fan should have this. It ends abruptly tho' which may have been caused by Steamboat apperently getting busted open hardway...I wish Jake had touched more on whether or not his "conversion" was legit, and something he still believes, or if it never was something he truly believed in. Overall: Big thumbs up!!! Highest recomendation.Rating: - Jake the Snake Reviewer: Christopher from Cumberland, Kentucky I hesitated about buying this for a long time because I thought it would remind me of how Jake Roberts, a personal hero of mine, fell to his personal demons. And honestly it did. But what I didn't expect was how Jake himself gave the reasoning behind the mistakes he made. And more importantly how he overcame them. Honestly, the movie made me laugh, it made me cry, but in the end it just made me remember why he will always be one of the all time greatest. I'm not a big WWE fan anymore, but I have to say they really outdid themselves this time.Rating: - Excellent job on Jake! Reviewer: Wayne from Richmond, Virginia This was an excellent DVD on the life and career of Jake The Snake Roberts. At first I wasn't going to buy this DVD, but I did change my mind, and I found myself entertained and informed about Mr. Roberts. The documentary was spine chilling and the extra features aren't too bad as well. High recommendation.Rating: - Not too bad.. Reviewer: Green Cyn from Rosenberg, Texas The DVD is quite in depth and personal. Jake goes through childhood all the way to pretty much present day. He holds very little back when discussing everything from childhood to his recent run-ins with the law to his apperance earlier this year on Raw. The extras make the DVD well worth the money. Dont pass up this chance to relive some of your favorite moments with Jake himself. |
